Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year.  We are looking forward to another great year.  With COVID-19, there will certainly be many challenges.  However, I can assure you teaching and learning will happen every day for every student.  Our teachers are here to support you and your student. We are all in this together.

I am honored to be your superintendent.  On one of our first visits to Roanoke, my family and I journeyed to the Mill Mountain Star.  I fell in love instantly.  It is truly a blessing to live in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

This year’s theme is ‘We Will Rise.’  Our children and our city are depending on us to be at our very best for them.  We must prepare our students for college, the military, and the general workforce by grounding our work in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) with literacy serving as the foundation in each of these areas, beginning in the early years of schooling.  With your support, we will rise up and support students in every way, academically and emotionally. With an emphasis on high-quality instruction, our amazing teachers are prepared to lay the groundwork and develop each child to meet their full potential.

Many thanks to Roanoke City Council and the Roanoke City School Board for their unwavering support of public education.  There is a reason why Roanoke is a seven-time All-America City.  I am proud to now call Roanoke home.  Best wishes for an amazing school year!

Sincerely,
Superintendent Signature
