Update 6/26/2020:

As the newly appointed superintendent, I am excited to serve the students of Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS).  I want to extend my thanks and gratitude to the Board of Trustees for welcoming me to RCPS.  As I have conversed with each school board member, it is clear that Roanoke City is in very responsible hands and is being governed by those who are truly dedicated to public education.  I would also like to thank Dr. Bishop for her service to the RCPS community.  The progress that has been made under Dr. Bishop’s leadership is admirable, and it is my honor to carry the torch forward maintaining this momentum in the best interest of students.

As we begin our journey together, continuous progress will be established through our collective work as an RCPS family.  In my first 100 days, I will meet with teachers, students, parents, staff, and community members via school visits and virtual meetings to discuss health and safety measures, as well as academic programming.  I am looking forward to working with members of the community, the City Council, and school system partners to establish opportunities that will allow our students to graduate with a diploma and a resume, so they are fully prepared for the future that awaits them.

In the immediate, however, our first order of business will be related to student and staff safety and the RCPS School Reopening Plan.  As you know, this is an unprecedented time in recent history with regard to the pandemic and your input is essential in this process.  The Transition and Restoration Task Force, of which I am the newest member, is to be commended for their collective work on the RCPS School Reopening Plan and I appreciate their student and staff-centered approach to wellness and restoration.  As we move forward, we will do so thoughtfully, carefully, and responsibly to ensure the best learning environment for our youngsters.   Again, it is my honor to serve the Roanoke City community, and I am looking forward to meeting everyone and getting started.
