This year's Convocation featured remarks by Superintendent Rita Bishop, Vice-Mayor Joe Cobb, and School Board Vice-Chairman Lutheria Smith.  The event included performances by students from Patrick Henry and William Fleming High Schools.

The keynote speaker was Leland Melvin, a retired NASA Astronaut from Lynchburg.   Mr. Melvin shared his inspiring life-story from a young child growing up in Lynchburg to his mission to the International Space Station.  Mr. Melvin's message really resonated with teachers.  He received a standing ovation.

During Convocation, Raymond Cotter received a $1,000 check from the Roanoke City Public Schools Education Foundation.  Mr. Cotter of William Fleming/ROTEC is Roanoke's Teacher of the Year.

At the end, we premiered the District's new promotional video.  Click here to watch
