Patrick Henry High School Student Uses Bezos Scholar
Experience to Organize Music Festival Fundraiser
Patrick Henry senior Locher Grove is taking his summer experience from the Bezos Scholars Program and using it to organize a fundraiser to benefit elementary music programs. As a Bezos Scholar, Locher had a unique opportunity to participate in a national program based in Colorado that encourages selected students to return home with inspiration and launch their own big ideas. Grove returned to Roanoke and launched the Noteworthy Music Festival which kicks off this weekend at Patrick Henry High school from 2 -9:30 p.m.
The goal of the festival is to raise money to purchase take home instruments for elementary students who don’t have the financial resources to practice music outside of school. Locher Grove says he wants other students to be able to have the same music opportunities he has enjoyed, “Music has always been a big part of my life; I have been playing the violin since I was 5 and have been a member of my middle and high school orchestras. I recognize the importance music education has made in my development.”
Tickets for the Noteworthy Music Festival are $10 and can be purchased at Patrick Henry High School on or before the day of the event. The festival will take place in the Patrick Henry High School auditorium and will include music, food, art, and a silent auction. Go to www.rcps.info for additional details on the event schedule.
