DETAILS: Fifth-grade students at Garden City Elementary School will have the opportunity to participate in a Mealtime Manners program during the spring semester thanks to a grant from the Foundation of the Roanoke Valley. The Mealtime Manners program will provide students with lessons on basic table manners that they will use as adolescents and into adulthood. In addition, students will be given an opportunity to practice what they learn in a real-life setting.

EVENT: Garden City Elementary Brings Together Diverse Group of Community Sponsors to Help 100 Children This Holiday Season

DETAILS: Garden City Elementary School is helping to make Christmas brighter for 100 children through its annual Giving Tree project- which connects sponsors with families who need assistance during the holiday season. This year, the school was able to match all 100 children who needed assistance with a sponsor. In addition to the staff at Garden City Elementary School, sponsors came from Garden City Citgo, Valley Bank – Starkey Road, SWTC Properties in Vinton, Garden City Baptist Church, Garden City Church of the Nazarene, Lions Club, families in the community, and other RCPS employees.

DETAILS: The William Fleming Athletic Booster Club will honor the 2011 inductees for the WF Athletic Hall of Fame on December 17^th at 6pm in the school’s cafeteria. A reception will be held for the inductees and special guests.
