IF YOU MISS SCHOOL, YOU MISS OUT!

As an Intervention Specialist for Roanoke City Schools it is my goal to have students attend school in order to make good progress both academically and socially. In pursuit of my goal I work with staff, students, parents, and agencies. Nothing makes me happier than to see successful students attending school with their parents as part of their team of supporters. My face is a familiar one in the neighborhood as home visits are an important part of working with families. The staff at Hurt Park Elementary School wants to have families on board for student success!

Another aspect of my position is to work with volunteers as part of the team of supporters. We run a school store where students use "Husky Bucks" to buy a variety of items. Students earn one buck for each day that they are present and not late. Other staff members use Husky Bucks as rewards in other areas. The volunteers donate items and help organize the store.

When families need support from outside the school, I work as a liaison with agencies to facilitate the process. Meetings and conferences may be held with the family and the agencies on an as needed basis. The agency becomes a part of the team of supporters.

At Hurt Park Elementary School we are "ON BOARD FOR STUDENT SUCCESS". Our train of success has room for staff, students, volunteers, agencies, and more! I can be reached at 853-1015 if you are interested in being a part of our team of supporters.
