Course: Wonderful World of Osmo Words

Course Description:   Imagine a class were “la-la land” is boring compared to the real-world class. Using formative assessment strategies eliminates hand raising and cuts down on daydreaming. In this class we will explore web-based resources that will simplify all student response activities and promote student engagement.   
Topics will include SMART Learning Suite, Plickers, Kahoot, Quizizz, GimKit and more!  
Assignment: Create 10 original games using the resources mentioned above. At least one game from each resource must be created.

Due Date:  Monday, March 16, 2020  Course Description:    Teachers will explore Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) using Merge Cubes and Class VR goggles.  Teachers will learn how to use various Augmented Reality apps and develop lesson plans that incorporate AR in them.  Teachers will also learn how to use the Class VR teacher portal, create virtual reality playlists, and develop virtual reality lesson plans to enhance the learning experiences of their students.   
Assignment:  Teachers will complete the following requirements:  

  • Create 3 augmented lesson plans which incorporate the use of companion iPad apps in them.
  • Create 3 virtual reality lesson plans which incorporate the use of virtual reality playlists in them.Each VR playlist should have at least 3 tracks.
  • Upload the virtual playlists to your playlist or cloud in the Class VR portal.

Course Description:   Teachers will learn how to use, create, edit and save video projects using the iMovie app on RCPS iPads.  This class will also cover pre-planning video templates, video techniques, video project rubrics and iMovie Green Screen video creation and iMovie trailers.
Assignment: Teachers will create and implement at least 2 lesson plans using Video based assessments to include Green Screen videos and iMovie trailers. 

Course: Get Your Kids Thinking Critically with Coding

Course Description: Teachers will be introduced to code.org and other coding sites that can be integrated into the curriculum to get kids thinking critically. Why is it important for students to learn to code? These are just a few of the concepts they will learn - 

  1. Math concepts such as variables and conditions.
  2. Logic such as sequencing as well as cause and effect.
  3. Techniques for solving problems.
  4. Project design such as the importance of breaking down big ideas to specific tasks.
  5. Benefits of collaboration and techniques for communicating ideas.

Assignment: Teachers will complete coding activities and develop lesson plans to use with their students incorporating coding into their curriculum.

Course:  Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners Using Microsoft Office Tools

Course Description:     This class is designed to help teachers turn their class into an online experience for their students. Make going paperless a reality in your class. In this course teachers will become advanced Teacher Vue Synergy users. Learn all the functions that Synergy has to offer and make your class a one stop experience for your students. Using Dropbox, performance bands, communication techniques, resources, and jpeg submissions through drop box for project-based assessments. Teachers will turn their classes and curriculum into an online experience.  
Assignment:   Using screen shots and screencasts teachers will develop a minimum of 5 assignments and resources implementing Synergy into the curriculum. We will also do a review of TeacherVue pages to show mastery of class content.

Course Description: What if your students BEGGED for more review? Gimkit will make this dream come true. GimKit an online game (created by a high school student) in which students answer questions individually on their own device. For each question they get right, they ‘earn’ money. As money is accumulated, it can be used to buy upgrades and powerups within the game. Teachers can assign it as a live class game for competitions or give it as homework for review (students may even do the homework to practice for the BIG class game).

Assignment: The teachers will create their own GimKit games to share in class with students. The teachers will explore all the various settings to best suit their specific classroom situations. Course

Teachers can choose to develop their own Passion Project or Guide a group of students to create their own Passion Projects to enhance and enrich their traditional studies. Teachers and students will use the support and guidance of the ITRT team to develop and implement their Passion Project. 
 Assignment:   After the initial meeting, teachers will submit their project idea for review and approval to confirm it meets the requirements of the course.  Teacher will document their time spent on the project and show how the implementation of the project benefits their students to complete the recertification points.

 It is essential that today’s students learn not only to be effective users of technology but also Master of It: They should be able to control it, to shape it, or in other words to program it.

Course Description:   This course has been developed for the Roanoke City Public Schools teachers to advance their skills with the use of the technology in the classroom setting.  Have you ever wanted to make something with the Cricut but just did not know how to start?  This class is designed for those that wish to use the Circuit technology to enhance learning in their classroom but creating great looking meaningful hands on activities.  We will be exploring the paper products that Cricut can cut and how to use them with your students.
Assignment: Create lessons to use in an RCPS classroom.  This lesson should be hands on and SOL correlated, or maker space correlated with the upcoming computer science standards.  The lesson must have Circuit made manipulatives.
