Course Description: Canvas has a new tool! Nearpod is the Swiss Army knife for interactive presentations and assessments. Teachers can create multimedia presentations including draw it (students annotate directly on a slide), collaboration boards, and more.  Participants in this recertification course will learn to create engaging lessons for their students using Nearpod and to add Nearpod lessons to their Canvas courses as an external assignment.  

Assignment: Participants will be required to complete the following: complete tutorials in the Canvas Modules, find a lesson in Nearpod and add it to their library, create 4 lessons with at least 4 slides, and complete a Course Time Log (20 hours).

Course Description: To prepare students for a test, we should be asking them to PULL information OUT of their brains, rather than trying to PUT concepts INTO their long-term memory. The very act of being quizzed actually helps students learn. Why not include low-stakes assessment as part of your everyday instruction? 

Assignment: In this course the student will learn about a study/learning method called Retrieval Practice. The student will then use what they learn about Retrieval Practice to Plan and Create technology activities and lessons they will Implement in their classroom.

Course Description: The very basics of computer programming can be learned by playing games. Today’s technology can teach our students (and us) complex computer logic by masking it as levels and challenges!

Computer technology is everywhere; in our phones, computers, cars and homes. It controls our power, telecommunications, transport, networks and almost everything else. Today's kids grow up surrounded by technology and this only means they know how to consume technology. We want to turn our consumers into creators! It is essential that today’s students learn not only to be effective users of technology but masters of it: They should be able to control it, to shape it, or in other words to program it.

Assignment: In this class we will learn the basics of coding using the games, unplugged activities and lesson plans provided on the website code.org.  We will also learn about the VA Computer Science SOLs for our grade level and use them to help build Computer Science into our lessons and routines.

Course Description: Why reinvent the wheel? The addition of our new testing platform, Performance Matters includes a copious bank of questions/items and resources/passages and includes many of the items from the old PowerSchool/IA. In this course, we will  practice assembling tests using questions from the item bank. 

Assignment:  Participants will create tests with a total of 40 questions from the item bank. Ten of the questions must include a variety of the 15 new question interactions types.  Submit the test numbers and a time card for course completion.

Course Description: Calling all creative question writers! Our new testing platform, Performance Matters is more accessible than ever. With 15 question styles to choose from, teachers from all grade levels and content areas (move over testing grades) will discover how to create their own questions and resources to utilize in Performance Matters. 

Assignment: Create a total of 20 questions and resources. Ten of the new item interaction types must be included within the 20 original questions.  Submit the items and test numbers and a time card for course completion.
