PURPOSE / MISSION
The purpose of Title I is to provide supplementary resources to students who attend schools in high economically challenged areas. Additional assistance in reading and mathematics is provided by Reading and Math Specialists to help ensure that all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards. Title I is designed to support State and local school reform efforts tied to meeting the goals and objectives of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.

Title I Program
The Title I program offers supplemental services in reading and/or math to students in Roanoke City. During the 2015-2016 school year these services are available in 14 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 1 high school. These schools are staffed with Instructional Coaches, Reading Specialists, Math Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Instructional Assistants.

After-School Program
After-school instructional programs are offered at Title I elementary schools. Teachers will provide extended learning opportunities to students in grades 1 - 5. Students served in this program are those children most at-risk of performing below the benchmark on the Standards of Learning tests.
