Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS) has identified 731 students for the 2018-2019 School Year.

Our Help the Homeless Fund is preventing families from becoming homeless.  To date, the school system has spent $28,690 helping 199 families (443 students).  The fund pays for things like an utility bill or rent to prevent evictions.  The funding is being used to fill the gaps after all other community resources have been exhausted.

Homelessness can take on different forms.  Some of our students live in shelters.  Others live in hotels or are doubling up with our families.  Put another way, these students don't have a permanent residence.  There are a number of ways you can help.

Here is a list of items that are needed on a regular basis:

School supplies (paper, glue sticks, crayons, markers, notebooks, composition notebooks, binders, and book bags)

Winter coats (all sizes)

New winter hats, gloves, mittens


New Towels/washcloths

toothpaste/toothbrushes

soap


New underwear (preK- 18 yr.)

sweat pants/sweat shirts (new or gently used)

Dishes, pots, silverware, cups, etc.

Dish cloths/dish towels

baking sheets

washing detergent

cooking utensils

Notebook and notebook paper or any type of school supply

Book bags

Kleenex

Hand Sanitizer

Sheetz/Kroger gift cards ($10-$20) to purchase gas

You can mail or drop off any of these items to the Community Relations Office at Central Office.  Before dropping off items, you may want to call 853-2816 and arrange a time.  The mailing address is:
